About Us

Who is behind Colin Heritage and what it is that we do

“Colin will be an area with a vibrant centre, where people are happy to live, work, play and study and proud to say they are from. It will be a community empowered to participate and make a difference, where local achievements are celebrated and visitors are welcomed.”

Who we are and what we do

The Colin Heritage project is part of the Colin Neighbourhood Partnership. CNP’s mission is to promote and empower the community of the Colin area of west Belfast, improving individual lives and the community as a whole.

The Partnership consists of local people & organisations, elected & community representatives, and government bodies. CNP was set up by local people living and working in the Colin area who wanted to see positive change in their community. Today, all these organisations work together in partnership to address issues that affect people living in the Colin neighbourhood.

CNP proactively initiates and manages a vast array of projects and initiatives covering arts and culture, community safety, environment, family support, and health and wellbeing.

We believe that, going forward, not only will Colin Heritage help create a real sense of identity and purpose in Colin, but that it will provide economic opportunities in the leisure, tourism and other sectors.

It is also aimed at increasing understanding and connections to and within communities across Northern Ireland.  Find out more about Colin Neighbourhood Partnership here

What the Colin Heritage Project is about

Colin Heritage brings forward a range of trails, interpretative panels, leaflets, videos and other tools to both increase awareness and understanding of our history, and to help facilitate the attraction of visitors to our area and develop tourism.

We also believe learning about and understanding our shared history will also foster better community relations.

Our historical advisor is the well-known historian Dr Eamon Phoenix.

Ulster University supports the development of the Colin Heritage initiative as a partner on this project. The team from Ulster University work in partnership to enhance capacity and promote engagement with heritage and history, underpinned by good relations, themes which resonate strongly with the overall purpose and ambition of this project.

In many ways the history of the Colin area is like a microcosm of the history of Ireland itself.
